Through this solicitation of opinions, we were able to recognize the extreme importance of connecting the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games with sustainability and we also received many comments regarding people’s expectations and concerns regarding the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. There is a particularly strong aspiration that the Tokyo games surpass those of the 2012 London games in the area of sustainability.
On the subject of sustainability, the level of interest was highest in regard to diversity, labor and human rights, followed by reducing environmental impact and reinforcing the provision of information. Many people also expressed the view that enhancing consumer awareness and the awareness of the next generation was essential.
We intend to focus on the following five topics:
domestic workers, and ensuring fair and safe working conditions
for gender minorities and persons with disabilities
cooperation with stakeholders.
We will submit a report to The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOG) as our report on the results of comments solicited for “Sustainability Themes for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.”
We gratefully acknowledge the contribution of those comments, and have a great expectation on TOCOG to facilitate efforts for the realization of the sustainable Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
