A draft “Food Vision” for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics (Japanese only)
The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held from July to September 2020. Based on a firm belief that the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games (the 2020 Games) are in a position to contribute to addressing environmental, social and labour issues, a Group of Experts for a Sustainable Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games carried out a survey on Sustainability Themes for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020. The survey was conducted and asked for feedback concerning sustainability issues the Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games(TOCOG) should prioritise in the lead up to the 2020 Games. Some of the received comments express the importance of ensuring food security throughout a supply chain, and providing food and drink in accordance with religions and beliefs.
In response to the public interest and concern, and recognizing that it is important that TOCOG inherits the legacy from the past Olympic Games and creates a new value which will be inherited to the next Olympic Games, the workshops for Food Vision were conducted with companies, NGOs and other stakeholders which have interest in sustainability and food. As the outcome of the discussions, CRT-Japan produced a draft “Food Vision” for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic.
The vision stresses the need to ensure environmental sustainability and respect for diversity of the participants of the Games. The Vision also notes that approximately 30 percent of labourers in Japan under the Foreign Internship scheme are performing food related jobs, and stresses the importance of ensuring that their rights are respected. The Vision has been submitted to TOCOG.
CRT-Japan respectfully encourages TOCOG to adopt this document, and hopes that this food vision will contribute to success of the 2020 Games.
