In July 2019, Daniel Neal, Program Director, CHRB（Corporate Human Rights Benchmark）will visit Tokyo to have consultation with Japanese companies about the Benchmarks prepared by CHRB as follows.

CHRB is a unique collaboration/initiative promoted by a steering committee which consists of Aviva Investors (UK)、Calvert Investments (US)、NGO Business and Human Rights Resource Center, Vigeo Eiris and so on. CHRB provides information of benchmarks to investors, prepared through numerical rating process of human rights approach of global large companies. Its activities are focusing for not “Race to the bottom”, but “Race to the top”. Its activities draw attentions as Social side standards in ESG investment.

In 2017 and 2018, the CHRB published a ranking of 100 of the largest global companies in the Agricultural Products, Apparel and Extractive industries. In 2019, the CHRB is also looking at companies in ICT manufacturing industry, and plans on adding automotive companies in 2020. The CHRB has already published global companies for the 2019 ranking (2019 List of Companies). It has already contacted the listed companies for their human rights activities and approach.

Now in July 2019, the CHRB would like to have an opportunity to see related Japanese companies and to exchange views and information.

Please visit the CHRB website for more information on existing benchmarks and methodologies. This session in Tokyo is one in a series of consultations across the world that the CHRB is holding to hear from companies, investors, representatives of governments and civil society organizations.

We will be doing a full review and consultation on all indicators in 2020 when we will have had three years of benchmarking experience to draw on. We will provide the full set of indicators so that you can understand how the full methodology will be applied to the sectors.
